Well, Hurricane Simon turned out to be mostly nothing.
After watching the forecasts get progressively worse, then better, then worse again, we were preparing for what was supposedly going to be a pretty serious storm.
We had even filled every available container in the condo with water, since the city shut the water off the afternoon before the storm was supposed to hit.
And then... nothing. This was the sky the night Simon was supposed to hit.
And here was the sky the next morning…
Yesterday, we finally made it back to the pool for the first time since all the hurricane excitement. We were a couple of hours into our regularly scheduled afternoon of doing absolutely nothing when I got hit with a migraine. I haven’t had one in ages, and this one was a doozy, but my least favorite super power is that I am a human meteorological instrument. Sure enough, within a couple hours we were treated to a rainstorm of biblical proportions. It cleared up around dinner time, and my meds had kicked in by then, so we braved the puddles to get some tacos. We did have to leave as soon as the mariachi band started playing right by our table. One of the least helpful things in migraine recovery is a trumpet playing a few feet away from your head.
So, no storm for us… or is there?
Apparently, another tropical system (Trudy) is brewing farther down the coast.
For now, though, the sun is shining, the pool bar is open, and we’re going to enjoy every minute of it.
And Trudy, if you’re listening, please follow Simon’s lead and skip Puerto Vallarta.
Sometimes the best travel adventure is the one that never actually happens.
