Our First Portuguese Meal
Seafood Portugal style
A couple nights ago we walked about an hour across the city to the riverfront district to get to this little gem of a restaurant that is popular with locals and known for their grilled fish.
A typical dinner here is grilled sardines, boiled potatoes, and salad. They have all kinds of grilled fish, but sardines are the most common.
You put bread on your plate to start, then very carefully filet the sardine on top of the bread.
The sardines were so good with crispy skin from being grilled with sea salt over charcoal, then finished with a drizzle of olive oil and a squeeze of lemon juice. The potatoes are very simply prepared, but somehow also delicious, and the tomato salad is vinegary and refreshing.
It was such a tasty meal! We’re looking forward to trying all the types of grilled fish while we’re here.
Saúde!
