Costa Brava, Spain
2019
I’m in the process of moving my older trip posts from a different website over to Substack.
Day One in Costa Brava – The Hotel Cala del Pi in Platja D’Aro
We arrived at our hotel in the early afternoon. It is a beautiful hotel, set on a hill overlooking the beach and ocean below.

We walked down the hill, into town, and had lunch at an outdoor cafe. The weather and the meal were fantastic.

After some spa time at the hotel, we made our way back down the hill for a late dinner. The drinks and olives were the perfect combo to start.

Day Two – Tossa del Mar
This morning we drove the very windy, slightly terrifying, road to the coastal town of Tossa del Mar. They have a stunning castle overlooking the ocean. We had our first meal of paella here and it was delicious!

Day Three – The Drive to Begur
We had our last breakfast at Hotel Cala del Pi before hitting the road to drive North to Begur.

Our first stop along the way was the medieval hilltop village of Peratallada.

Our second stop was another medieval village, Pals. The cobblestone streets were deserted and stunning.

Our final stop was our home for the next two nights – Begur. We started our afternoon off with some tapas and Cava.

The view from our apartment…
In Spain, you have drinks around 6, then dinner at 9 or 10. We started our evening with Sangria in the town square.
For dinner that night, we tried our luck as walk-ins at Platillos, an amazing tapas restaurant that is typically reservations only. Luckily there were two seats left at the bar! We were in for an amazing meal, and we immediately made a reservation for the next night when we were done.

Day Four – Road Trip to L’Escala
We hit the road, with some Spanish snacks in tow, for L’Escala.

We could not get enough of their amazing seafood. We even stopped at an anchovy packaging plant on the way out of town to try them out fresh from the source.

That night we had one last, romantic walk into town that night to enjoy Begur.

Day Five – Back to Barcelona
We dropped off our rental car and took the train into Barcelona for one last night in Spain. We had a ridiculously delicious lunch at La Boqueria market after wandering through and admiring all the yummy looking food.

Our last stroll that night, and some munchies before bed…

Hasta Luego, Spain!
